Legal Aid Society’s Volunteer Eviction Defense Program invites you to a free CLE where we will take an in depth look at non-payment cases in eviction court.

We will explore the "why" of representation with special guest Adrienne Bush, Executive Director at the Homeless and Housing Coalition of KY. She will discuss the "Out of Reach- Report" and "raising rent" issues across the state. Then Rebekah Cotton, Senior Attorney for The Volunteer Eviction Defense Program, will present on novel ways to represent clients in non-payment cases which go beyond basic defenses like sufficient notice. We conclude with a discussion on how to prepare tenants to defend against lawsuits for tenant related debts, should the landlord proceed to collections, presented by Melissa Weinstein, Advocacy Director for Legal Aid Society.

This training is 1 hour, with 15 minutes for questions at the end.
