- Victims of domestic violence
- Homeless individuals, many of whom are mentally or physically disabled
- Families at risk of becoming homeless
- Children forced to move from school to school because of an unstable home life
- Children in the juvenile court and educational systems who need assistance in order to stay in school
- People living with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening medical conditions
- Community groups that serve people living in poverty
- Individuals making the transition from welfare to work
- Senior citizens who need help obtaining medical and prescription benefits or who are victims of elder abuse
- Nursing home residents who need representation and to ensure quality care within the nursing home
Community Development Program
Works as corporate counsel to community groups and non-profit organizations on a variety of issues.Family Advocacy Program
Helps domestic violence victims break the cycle of abuse by providing legal representation and social services support.Economic Stability Advocacy Program
Assists clients in obtaining government benefits to which they are entitled, including Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, and Social Security income. Also helps clients on consumer issues that threaten economic security such as predatory lending and wage garnishment.Homeless Outreach Program
Assists homeless individuals obtain disability benefits, and secure permanent supportive housing; also helps in associated legal issues causing homelessness.HIV/AIDS Legal Project
Works with clients who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and performs a variety of work on estate issues, family law, health insurance, wills, and government benefits.Housing Advocacy Program
Represents clients in eviction actions, public housing grievance hearings, and administrative hearings in which the families could lose their shelter. Also includes the Children-At-Risk Project which provides targeted legal representation to families with children in Jefferson County schools to prevent school transfers and interruption of educational services caused by evictions, or home forclosures.Low-Income Taxpayers Clinic
Helps low-income individuals resolve tax problems with serious legal and/or financial implications.Nursing Home Ombudsman Program
Works with nursing home residents to assure quality care, and to represent residents and their interests.Rural Counties Program
Provides a wide range of legal services to low-income residents of the fourteen Kentucky counties surrounding Jefferson County.TeamChild
Collaborates with the Jefferson County Public Defender’s office and represents schoolchildren to ensure proper educational services and other supportive services for educational success.Volunteer Lawyer Program
